Gresik, April 28, 2017. The Minister of Research on Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia inaugurated the production facility unit of xylanase enzyme centered in Biocenter region of PT Petrosida, Gresik. Xylanase enzyme research results and cooperation of Biochemistry Professor, Chemistry Department, Faculty of Science and Technology Universitas Airlangga, Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tripuspaningsih, with BPPT and PT Petrosida Gresik have been applied in the deinking and biobleaching process in pen and paper industry (PT Sadya Balawan and PT Green Water Chemical Technology). The xylanase enzyme performs well in deinking and biobleaching processes, also environmentally friendly when compared to other chemicals. Production of xylanase enzyme in this industrial scale is the result of research of Chemistry Department, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universiitas Airlangga and the realization of Tri Dharma which can be used by public. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Universitas Airlangga and PT Petrosida Gresik has also been signed some time ago. In the future, many enzymes will be developed and produced through this partnership. Research and development will be conducted in Universitas Airlangga’s laboratories, while large-scale production will be conducted in PT Petrosida Gresik’s production units.
