Aswandi’s Story of Achieving His Dream of Studying at the University of Sydney

Achieving Dreams in Studies

The story of Chemistry Unair alumni this time tells Aswandi Wibrianto. Aswandi is one of the best alumni from the Department of Chemistry, Universitas Airlangga, who shows that big dreams can be achieved with dedication and hard work. Born and raised in Surabaya, he started his academic journey in 2016 at Universitas Airlangga, where he completed his undergraduate education cum laude in 2020. Since his studies, Aswandi has shown a deep interest in education and research.

Undergraduate Study Period: The Beginning of the Academic Journey

During his time at Universitas Airlangga, Aswandi not only excelled in academics but also actively contributed as a teaching assistant.Starting in 2018, he assisted in teaching various courses, strengthening his communication and scientific skills. His interest in research began to show when he was involved in various research projects at the Institute of Tropical Disease (ITD) Universitas Airlangga. Her research focus on the epidemiology of dengue and HIV viruses shows her concern for global health issues.
Under the guidance of Professor Mochamad Zakki Fahmi, Aswandi explored the field of Nano Chemistry, particularly for cancer cell detection. This research became a stepping stone for his research career, forming the basis of his understanding of nanotechnology applications in healthcare.

Elevating Yourself on the International Stage

Graduating from Universitas Airlangga, Aswandi continued his studies to the master’s level at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST), Taiwan, in 2021. He won a prestigious scholarship from Taiwan’s Ministry of Education (MOE), which provided full support for his education. At NTUST, she deepened her knowledge in Nanochemistry as a theranostics agent for cancer. In this research, he combines chemistry and technology to develop innovative solutions in cancer diagnosis and therapy.

His success at NTUST is not only proven by the Master of Science degree he earned in 2023, but also the Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor award as the best graduate. This achievement recognizes his outstanding dedication to academics and research.

Doctoral Studies: Wearable Bioelectronics Innovation

Not stopping there, Aswandi is now continuing his doctoral studies (PhD) at The University of Sydney (USyd), Australia, with the support of the Australian Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship. Since early 2024, he has been researching wearable bioelectronics for theranostics applications in human health under the mentorship of Professor Wenlong Cheng, a leading expert with an H-index of 73. His research focuses on the development of wearable electronics to monitor and treat health conditions in real-time, a technology that promises to revolutionize healthcare.

Research and Publication Trail

As a young researcher, Aswandi has left a significant mark on the academic world. With 26 publications in leading journals such as Small, ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, Chemical Engineering Journal, Carbon, and Progress in Materials Science, he has gained international recognition. Six of these articles were written as the lead author, demonstrating his direct contribution to the development of science. With an H-index of 9 and a total of 282 citations, Aswandi proves his great impact in the fields of Nanochemistry and Biomedical Engineering.

Inspiration for the Young Generation

Aswandi Wibrianto is a living example of how education and research can be tools to create change, both individually and globally. From a student in Surabaya to a researcher in Australia, Aswandi’s journey shows the importance of hard work, a clear vision, and the courage to dream big. He is now dedicated not only to advancing science but also to sharing his knowledge with the younger generation, inspiring them to pursue their dreams without limits.
