Exploring the World of University Chemistry: Visit of Students and Teachers of MA Mashudiyah Gresik to the Department of Chemistry, Universitas Airlangga
The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga welcomed a visit from students and teachers of MA Mashudiyah Gresik on Wednesday, 11 February 2026. This activity was organized to introduce participants to university life and the academic discipline of chemistry at the higher education level. It formed part of an educational initiative aimed at providing students with a comprehensive overview of the academic environment, learning system, laboratory facilities, as well as study and career prospects in the field of chemistry.
The program began with an opening session and a presentation on the profile of the Department of Chemistry delivered by Dr. Alfa Akustia Widati, Head of the Department of Chemistry, Universitas Airlangga. This was followed by a presentation on campus life by Prof. Mochamad Zakki Fahmi. During this session, participants received a comprehensive explanation of the research-based curriculum, lecture and practicum system, and the various areas of study developed within the department, including analytical chemistry, biochemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and physical chemistry. The presentation provided an initial insight into the direction of academic development and the competencies expected of chemistry graduates in the era of modern science and technology.
Subsequently, participants joined a departmental tour guided by members of the Chemistry Student Association (HIMAKI). During this session, students were introduced to various supporting facilities for academic activities, such as teaching and research laboratories, lecture rooms, and student facilities. Current students also shared their experiences regarding coursework, research activities, student organizations, and scientific competitions that can be pursued during their studies.
The participants demonstrated strong enthusiasm during the interactive discussion and question-and-answer session. Students inquired not only about the learning system and practicum activities but also about scholarship opportunities, university admission pathways, and career prospects for chemistry graduates across various sectors, including industry, education, testing laboratories, and research institutions. The activity concluded with a group documentation session as a commemorative moment of the inspiring academic visit.
Through this visit, it is hoped that students of MA Mashudiyah Gresik will gain broader insights into higher education and feel increasingly motivated to pursue further studies in science, particularly chemistry. This academic visit also reflects the commitment of the Department of Chemistry, Universitas Airlangga, to supporting the introduction of higher education to secondary school students and strengthening institutional relationships between the university and schools in the development of human resources in the field of science.
