Strengthening International Collaboration: Delegation of the Department of Chemistry, Universitas Airlangga Conducts Academic Visit to Thailand

A delegation from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Universitas Airlangga conducted an academic visit to Thailand from 9 to 13 February 2026. The delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Pratiwi Pudjiastuti, accompanied by three doctoral students: Sri Lestari, Muhammad Qalbi, and Riki Hariyanto. The visit was undertaken as part of efforts to strengthen international networks and explore cross-institutional research collaborations.

During the visit, the delegation met with the Faculty of Science at Chulalongkorn University. Discussions focused on potential collaborative research in materials chemistry, applied chemistry, and the development of joint publications in reputable international journals. The meeting also addressed opportunities for faculty and student exchanges as part of higher education internationalization initiatives.

The delegation subsequently visited the Faculty of Science at Mahidol University to discuss the strengthening of research partnerships and joint supervision programs for postgraduate students. The discussions were highly productive, emphasizing the advancement of multidisciplinary research, including the integration of chemistry with biotechnology and health sciences.

The program continued with a visit to the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. During this session, the delegation gained insights into health-based and translational research that integrates fundamental science with clinical applications. The meeting opened opportunities for collaboration in medicinal chemistry, biomaterials, and the development of laboratory-based technologies to support innovation in the healthcare sector.

This visit is expected to serve as an initial step toward establishing sustainable and strategic collaboration in the forms of joint research, visiting professor programs, student mobility, as well as jointly organized international seminars and conferences. Through this initiative, the Department of Chemistry, FST, Universitas Airlangga reaffirms its commitment to expanding global networks and enhancing the quality of the university’s tridharma through international collaboration. It is anticipated that the synergy established with partner institutions in Thailand will contribute significantly to the advancement of research and innovation in chemistry and applied sciences at both regional and global levels.
