UNAIRNEWS – The Community Service Team from the Department of Chemistry and the Proteomics Research Group part of the Center of Excellence for Science and Technology (PUI-PT) on Biological Molecular Engineering Research (BIOME) at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) conducted an outreach session for the XFeedZyme application on Saturday (September 12, 2026). Targeting the Livestock Farmers’ Association in Gandusari District, Blitar Regency, the initiative aims to boost the productivity of local chicken farming. The event involved lecturers and students from the UNAIR Department of Chemistry, early-career researchers from PUI-PT BIOME UNAIR, and representatives from the industry partner, PT Pupuk Kujang.
XFeedZyme is a local consortium enzyme product specifically formulated to enhance the digestibility of poultry feed. This innovation is produced at the Excelzyme Teaching Industry facility under PUI-PT BIOME UNAIR and has already been utilized by dozens of farmers across various cities in East Java.
This outreach activity represents a concrete step by academics to support capacity building for small-to-medium-scale farmers, particularly in addressing challenges such as soaring feed prices and the need to increase yields. Through this event, participants received comprehensive guidance covering everything from an introduction to feed technology and instructions on using XFeedZyme to practical solutions for everyday farming issues.
Speaker Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, M.Si., explained the crucial role of enzymes in the livestock sector. She presented concrete evidence regarding the effectiveness of XFeedZyme, which has been tested in poultry farming operations.
“Field use of XFeedZyme has been proven to enhance feed nutrient absorption efficiency, resulting in faster chicken growth and an improved Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR),” Prof. Nyoman explained.
The session continued interactively with other members of the Community Service Team Dr. Ali Rohman and Fatiha Khairunnisa, M.Si. addressing participants’ questions directly. Enthusiasm was evident during the discussion, as farmers actively sought information on technical application guidelines for XFeedZyme and solutions for coop management issues in the Gandusari area. The event concluded with the distribution of XFeedZyme product samples to the participants.
The involvement of academics in this outreach activity exemplifies the synergy between universities, industry, and the community. This collaborative effort not only facilitates information exchange between researchers and field practitioners but also drives UNAIR’s applied research initiatives, supporting national food security and the improved welfare of Indonesian livestock farmers.
